Alfred Maphumulo - Bakhiwa

The 1st artist I met in Rockville Soweto while in search for the inner artist. !st day I met him He got me working on a piece He was doing for the National Department of Art and Culture. Through him I met a whole lot of artistic genuises throughout Soweto

Alfred was born at Moroka (Rockville) in Soweto in1970. As a child growing up he was inspired by his elder brother who was a comic artist. During the time he started school from his primary grades, he was appreciated and recognised by his peers and family as a talented young artist. He spent these formative years creating art works and helping schools in terms of art related projects right up until high school.

From 1990 to1994 he studied Fine Arts at Pelmama/Dobsonville College in Soweto. He furthered his studies doing a special art teacher’s training course at the Art Foundation in1995 followed by a graduate course in Art and Culture Management at Wits Business School in1997. In previous years he worked for different organisations, serving as an Art Facilitator/Co-ordinator, managing projects, producing his own art works, and also dealing in commercial art.

Alfred is currently teaching Fine Art for Ipelegeng community centre, targeting school students and out of school youth who have shown potential. Alfred empowers these students with skills and techniques so that they can apply this in their schools and create art for themselves.

Alfred is also running a small company called Genesis Art Collective with 3 partners mostly dealing with Print Making, Painting, Signage, Mural Designs, and Skill Transfer.

Alfred’s art is inspired by the South African cultural heritage and social life within the community, as well as different character portraiture and portraits of South African political icons of the post apartheid era. The medium he prefers working with the most

is: oil, acrylic paint, pencil and mix medium.

Met him a few years ago, He dated one or two of my friends, knew him as Philipi, reconnected with him last year this time around calling himself PhilMoo of PhilMoo Communications. There is a lot more to say about the man but I won’t He is a double lens who has a way with the camera, Handles it like a man handling a woman He is deeply in love with. I refuse to say much about him I will let His picture do the talking. I’ve only selected a few as most on this blog are his work and a lot more of his work is still on the way.

I always thought He was at his best when capturing people having a good time then I saw how he capture innocent souls all I can say is the man knows how to capture human emotion and make it last for ever.

The father of South African Art - Gerard Sekoto

Gerard Sekoto (9 December 1913 - 20 March 1993), was a South African artist and m

usician. He is recognized as the pioneer of urban black art, social realism, and more recently as the father of South African art and of his 8 daughters and 3 sons. He has had exhibitions in Paris, Stockholm, Venice, W ashington, Senegal as well as in South Africa.

In 1938 at the age of 29 he left for Johannesburg to pursue a career as an artist. He lived with relatives in Gerty Street, Sophiatown. He held his first solo exhibition in 1939. In 1940 the Johannesburg Art Gallery purchase

d one of his pictures; it was to be the first picture painted by a black artist to enter a museum collection. In 1942 he

He has inspired a lot of young black township still struggling to leave the the backroom and enter exhibitions.

Back when there was no hope for rhe art industry He sold a master piece.

Lady I- Soul - Making the right kinda noise

I don't know a lot of female Dj's especially from my hood,this is one soulful lady I got to hear and love and this is what she had to say about who she is and why She is making the kind of noise she'z making

Lady'I-soul is a strong Lady DJ who never gives up easily! Deep house is her life* it is the closest thing to her heart! She has not been in the industry for a long time but she already made waves and got people talking* To her DJ-ing is not all about swagg,money and fame, its about reaching the people through house music! Her inspiration is the music itself, Legends like Vinny Da Vinci,Atjazz,black Coffee and Rocco motivates her to never give up, they are her motivation at all time when the going gets tough in the industry!! At the moment she is working on Getting a show at a radio station,where only finest cuts will be played and after 5 years from now start with Music Production! Urban Zulu - The future of Milan Fashion week

My first encounter with Papi was on a crazy day I was bargain hunting with Mantis. The store right in the heart of Jozi. A thick jungle where only the fittest survive is a ray of of hope and sunshine. An indication that someday we will possess the land.We got into the store, arty cosy, a part of this world one wants to escape to when in need of inspiration. The place is buzzing with creatives. I fell in love with the bags the kind of craftsmanship that makes you realise what crap "made in china" is.

When He got in the store He had an orange cut it up into 8 pieces and said “An orange shared by 8 people tastes 8 times nicer"

I heared they giving away a free T-shirt with every dress purchased. You can hit two birds with one stone during this season of jolliness and giving.

Face 2 Face

FACE2FACE.

My 1st encouter with F2F was @ the Kwai Pre Beach Party. I had a chat with Nino 1 of the founding members and this is what He had to say

A brand new unique style.A style that brings flavour to the atmosphere.

FACE2FACE is a group of skilled guyz striving to help put amakasi on a map.

We specialise in mixing colourful,tasty drinks known to all as COCKTAILS.

Not only does f2f mix cocktails,we also shoot some shooters(springbokkies,jellybabies) to name a few.

One may ask "y" FACE2FACE-One day the members were chilling,brainstorming,playing along with the mixers till they came up with one amazing long drink.

They all tasted their talent and to their suprise and excitement they felt the same thing.The feeling of another face developed.

The 2nd face.It felt like a perfect feeling and a perfect name.

They since then called themselves FACE2FACE "Making magic with drinks".

The aim is to bring style,class,glamour,fun,entertainment,uniqueness ko kasi.

.F2F caters for weddings,parties,events and functions.

FACE2FACE is dedicated to non-violent events and entertainment since the drinks are made out of juices and soft drinks.

A cocktail is a very broad drink for it caters everybody including the alcohol-free clients..

WE ALSO SERVE VIRGIN COCKTAILS.

We won't stop making the magic until the magic is done.

The main future aim is to make people of amakasi realise wht amazing things their hands can make with their hands..

we want to open a COCKTAIL SCHOOL in the near future.
